How we source and verify

This page explains where the information on Nature Wonder comes from, what we do when we can’t verify something, and how to tell us we got it wrong.

Accuracy over completeness

The governing rule of this site is that it is better to say less than to say something unverified. In practice that means travel details are given as honest ranges with the variable named — “roughly 2–3h depending on traffic”, “fees change; confirm with the operator” — rather than as invented precision. A specific-sounding number that turns out to be wrong is more damaging than an approximate one that is openly approximate, because readers act on precision.

Where a place’s access depends on conditions that genuinely change — volcanic alert levels, seasonal road openings, permit caps, tides — entries say so and point you to the authority that publishes the current status, instead of freezing a snapshot that will quietly rot.

Photography and licensing

Every photograph on this site is either public domain, published under a Creative Commons licence, or generated for the site. We do not use images we don’t have the right to use. Each photo carries its creator and licence on the page it appears on, and links back to the original file so you can verify the licence yourself.

We also care that a photo actually shows the thing it illustrates. Automated image selection is surprisingly willing to return a map, a satellite view, a promotional banner, or an unrelated close-up, and we check and replace those — a licensed image that misrepresents a place is still a form of inaccuracy.

Dates and provenance

Content dates on this site are never hand-written, because hand-written dates are trivially fudged to make a site look more established than it is. Instead, every entry’s “Added” and “Updated” timestamps are derived automatically from the project’s own version-control history: added is the commit that created the page, updated is the most recent commit that substantively changed it.

A build-time check enforces this. If any content carries a date earlier than the repository’s first commit, the build fails rather than publishes. We would rather ship nothing than ship a backdated page.

Corrections

We will correct errors promptly, and material corrections update the page’s timestamp so you can see it changed. If something here is wrong, outdated, or misleading — a route that no longer runs, a permit rule that changed, a photo credited incorrectly — please tell us at hello@naturewonder.net.

Independence

Nature Wonder takes no payment for inclusion or placement. No destination, tour operator, or tourism board can buy an entry, influence its wording, or remove a caution from it. Where we warn that a site is crowded, difficult, weather-dependent, or frequently closed, that judgement is ours.
